For my first big assignment in my photography class I had to take a picture of myself then touch it up somehow in Photoshop.
I’m still getting used to using the DSLR camera and the picture I took turned out lighter than I wanted, At least I got to practice touch ups in Photoshop.
This was another attempt at taking my self portrait. As you can see it didn’t turn out. However, I actually liked the result and figured out how to do it again with my instructor.
I had a lot of trouble trying to get a good picture of both myself and my background at night; so instead I decided to take them separately.
This is a screenshot of me cropping myself out of the bathroom.
After using adjustment layers to match myself better into the background I went around myself with a soft brush. I felt this cleaned up the picture a bit.
I’ve always wanted super powers ever since I was a little kid (who wouldn’t?). Anyways that was my inspiration for my self portrait. To do this I looked for numerous videos/tutorials for making realistic electricity. Sadly I didn’t find anything that I liked. I did, however, find this cool video on how to make balls of energy. It looked cool and I got to learn something new.
After receiving some feedback I cleaned up some of the lighting on my face and body. I also used masks to make it look like the energy was more in the palms in my hands.
Even though most people don’t notice it, I like to add in some extras. I wanted to make it look like the light or “energy” in the background was being drawn to me. I found this really cool brush in Photoshop and added particles to all the light sources in my picture. You can see it here and in a few other places if you look real close. All in all I had a great time making this and I learned a lot. I also thought of some other ideas I’m going to try out when I get some free time 🙂
